A devastating fire, triggered by a gas pipeline leak, forced evacuations and left over 100 injured near Malaysia’s capital on Tuesday, coinciding with the Eid festivities.
Authorities in Selangor, close to Kuala Lumpur, confirmed that the blaze, visible for miles, stemmed from a 500-metre section of the pipeline. The valve on the pipeline, owned by state-run Petronas, has since been shut off.

Firefighters successfully contained the inferno by the afternoon, although it had already impacted around 50 homes. Of the more than 100 injured, 60 were hospitalised. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported.
The fire occurred early in the morning, and investigations into the cause of the leak are underway. Emergency teams continue to assess the full extent of the damage.
