Manchester United have sacked manager Erik ten Hag after a poor start to the season, the club announced on Monday. United currently sit 14th in the Premier League following a 1-0 defeat to West Ham, marking their fourth loss in nine league games and only one win in their last eight matches across all competitions.

Ten Hag, who took over in April 2022, led the club to domestic success with a Carabao Cup victory in 2023 and an FA Cup win in 2024. The club expressed gratitude for his contributions and wished him well for the future.

Former United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy, who joined as Ten Hag’s assistant in July, has been appointed interim manager as the search for a permanent replacement begins.

Ten Hag’s dismissal follows increased scrutiny after United’s underwhelming eighth-place finish last season, despite co-owner Jim Ratcliffe retaining him after an internal review.
