Many Shops Destroyed As Fire Guts Fatima Simra Market In Kano 

At least 50 shops have been destroyed after a fire broke out at the Fatima Simra Multi-Purpose Market in Kano in the early hours of Friday.

The market, located at the Dakata Small Scale and Industry Multi-Purpose Market, was engulfed by flames at about 5:50am. The Public Relations Officer of the Kano Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi, confirmed the incident and said firefighters were still battling to contain the blaze.

He said the extent of the damage has not yet been determined and investigations will begin once the fire is fully extinguished. Most of the affected shops are involved in oil production and the recycling of nylon and plastics.

The incident comes six days after a major fire at Singer Market in Kano destroyed more than 1,000 shops and properties estimated at over five billion naira, with several people reported missing.
