Media Office Says Another Journalist Killed In Gaza

Journalist Mohamed Salama, a broadcaster on Al-Aqsa satellite channel, has been killed in the bombing of a house in the city of Deir al-Balah.

According to Gaza’s Government Media Office, the number of journalists killed in Gaza since the war began on October 7 has increased to 133.

Journalists working in conflict areas are protected under international humanitarian law, but Palestinian journalists accuse Israel of repeatedly violating that law by targeting the media.

The Committee to Protect Journalists, CPJ, says Seventy-two of the 99 journalists killed worldwide in 2023 were Palestinians reporting on Israel’s war on Gaza, making those 12 months the deadliest for the media in almost a decade.

The CPJ is a non-profit, non-governmental organisation, based in New York City which focuses on promoting press freedom and defending the rights of journalists.
