Meta’s Social Media Platforms Hit by Global Outage

Meta’s social media platforms, Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, experienced a global outage on Wednesday evening, leaving millions unable to access the popular apps.

Frustrated users turned to X, formerly known as Twitter, to report the disruptions. Outage monitoring site Downdetector recorded over 100,000 reports for Facebook and 70,000 for Instagram.

Meta, owned by tech billionaire Mark Zuckerberg, has faced similar outages in the past, including incidents in May 2024 and October 2021. The company attributed these to technical issues rather than security breaches.

Facebook boasts three billion monthly users, while Instagram serves 1.35 billion worldwide.
