The Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) says military personnel invaded one of its substations and abducted two staff members in the early hours of Friday.
EKEDC’s General Manager of Corporate Communications, Babatunde Lasaki, said the personnel, from the 15th Field Engineer Regiment, Topo Barracks, Badagry, allegedly cited a prolonged power outage as their reason for the invasion. He explained that the outage was due to an upgrade at the Transmission Company of Nigeria’s Agbara facility — a development already communicated to the barracks’ commanding officer.

Lasaki added that the abducted staff were physically assaulted before being released later that day. The company has since reported the incident to the police and lodged a formal complaint with military authorities.
This comes just days after Nigerian Air Force personnel reportedly vandalised the premises of Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) and assaulted staff following the disconnection of power at Sam Ethnan Air Force Base in Lagos.
