The Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, has strongly condemned the recent attacks on electricity distribution infrastructure, describing them as a serious threat to Nigeria’s power supply and economic stability.
His remarks follow the attack on Eko Electricity Distribution Company’s (EKEDC) substation in Badagry on 14 March, where vandals damaged equipment and abducted staff. Adelabu called the incident unacceptable and urged National Security Adviser Malam Nuhu Ribadu to intervene, stressing that electricity infrastructure is vital to national development.

The minister also urged the Nigerian Army to investigate the attack and ensure those responsible face justice. The incident caused significant power outages, affecting thousands of residents.
Meanwhile, PowerUp Nigeria, a civil society group, has also condemned the attacks. Its Executive Director, Adetayo Adegbemle, has called for a transparent inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the incident and prosecution of those involved.
