In an update regarding the prison break at the correctional facility in Kuje, Abuja, Rauf Aregbesola, the minister of interior, says 65 security personnel were on duty on the day it was attacked in July this year.

The Minister who was speaking to the house of representatives committees on national security and interior yesterday gave a breakdown of the personnel present, including personnel of the Nigerian Army, the MOPOL 21 and 50, the counter-terrorism unit of the Nigeria Police Force, two personnel of Kuje police division, seven personnel of Nigeria Immigration Service, three from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and 10 personnel of the [NCoS] armed squad.

Mr Aregbesola refrained from giving a breakdown of their firepower due to the presence of the member’s press but says the personnel were well-armed.

Heads of the military services were also invited to appear before the committees but failed to honour the invite.

The lawmakers threatened to invoke their constitutional powers if the security chiefs fail to honour their invitation again.
