Russian and Ukrainian officials have begun a third round of United States-brokered peace negotiations in Switzerland, just days before the war in Ukraine reaches its fourth year. The two-day talks opened on Tuesday in Geneva amid renewed fighting on the ground.
Ukraine’s lead negotiator, Rustem Umerov, says the discussions will focus on security and humanitarian issues. The United States delegation is led by envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
Officials from Germany, France, Britain and Italy are also expected to take part, with meetings held behind closed doors.

Ahead of the talks, Ukraine accused Russia of undermining peace efforts by launching 29 missiles and nearly 400 drones overnight. At least nine people were wounded, and tens of thousands of residents in the southern port city of Odessa have reportedly been left without heating and running water.
