Events are being held throughout the United States to mark the first anniversary of the Hamas-led October 7 attack and the beginning of Israel’s war on Gaza.

US President Joe Biden lit a candle Monday at a Jewish ceremony of mourning to mark a year since Hamas’s attacks on Israel, as he and Democratic Presidential Candidate, Vice President Kamala Harris, stepped up their calls for peace in the Middle East.

Israel’s attacks on Gaza have resulted in the death of more than 41,000 Palestinians, and destroyed much of the enclave, forcing the majority of Gaza’s population to flee their homes.
