The United Nations human rights office says Israeli attacks on residential areas and civilian infrastructure in Lebanon may amount to war crimes. The warning was issued on Tuesday in Geneva amid intensified air and ground operations.
A spokesperson for the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights said hundreds of homes and facilities, including healthcare centres, have been destroyed. The UN stressed that international law prohibits deliberate attacks on civilians and civilian objects.
Lebanese authorities say at least 912 people, including 111 children, have been killed and 2,221 wounded since the escalation began on March 2. The conflict has also forced more than one million people from their homes.

Israel says its campaign targets Hezbollah positions, while the group has continued rocket attacks into northern Israel. The UN and aid agencies say the humanitarian response is struggling to meet growing needs amid widespread displacement.
