Morocco to appeal CAF sanctions after AFCON final chaos

Morocco’s football federation says it will appeal the disciplinary sanctions and fines imposed by the Confederation of African Football following chaotic scenes during the Africa Cup of Nations final against Senegal in Rabat. The Royal Moroccan Football Federation was fined a total of 315,000 dollars and had two players suspended after the match on January 18.

In a statement, the federation said it was lodging the appeal to protect its rights under CAF regulations, arguing that the sanctions did not reflect the scale of the incidents. CAF fined Morocco 200,000 dollars for the conduct of stadium ball boys, 100,000 dollars for improper behaviour by players and officials around the VAR area, and 15,000 dollars for the use of laser pointers by supporters. Forward Ismael Saibari received a three-match ban and a 100,000 dollar fine, while captain Achraf Hakimi was suspended for two matches.

Senegal were also fined 615,000 dollars, with head coach Pape Thiaw banned for five matches and players Iliman Ndiaye and Ismaila Sarr handed two-match suspensions, and the Senegal Football Federation has also confirmed it will appeal the sanctions.
