MultiChoice has announced it will shut down its streaming platform, Showmax, after eleven years of operation. The company informed subscribers on Thursday, saying the decision follows a review of its digital strategy.
The platform, launched in 2015 in South Africa, expanded across the continent, offering movies, series, documentaries, and sports content online. MultiChoice said there will be no immediate disruption to service, and subscribers can continue streaming as usual.
No exact date was given for the closure, but MultiChoice said subscribers are a priority and promised clear communication and a smooth transition when the service ends. The move is aimed at strengthening its overall digital offering and ensuring long-term sustainability in a competitive streaming market.
