MultiChoice to Receive €100 Million Support Amid Subscriber Decline

French media company Canal Plus has announced plans to invest 100 million euros to support African pay television operator MultiChoice Group, the company behind DStv and GOtv. The announcement was made in the company’s 2025 financial results released on Wednesday.

According to the report, MultiChoice recorded a drop in subscribers and revenue in 2025 due to difficult economic conditions in several markets, including Nigeria. The company ended the year with about 14.4 million subscribers, down from 14.9 million recorded the previous year.

The report also shows that revenue declined by six percent to 2.4 billion euros, while adjusted earnings before interest and tax dropped by 14 percent. Canal Plus attributed the challenges to factors such as currency depreciation, rising inflation, power supply issues and the costly transition to online streaming services.

Canal Plus says the new investment plan will focus on reviving subscriber growth across African markets. As part of the strategy, the company plans to recruit more than 1,000 sales staff to strengthen marketing and attract new customers.
