Muslims to Mark Eid el Fitr Friday Following Moon Sighting

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has declared Friday for the Eid al-Fitr celebration, marking the end of the Ramadan fast in Nigeria. The announcement followed the sighting of the Shawwal crescent, which signals the beginning of the new Islamic month.

The Sultan, who is also President General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, made the declaration after receiving and verifying reports of moon sightings from different parts of the country. He said the confirmation aligns with Islamic guidelines for determining the end of Ramadan and the commencement of Eid celebrations.

The Sultan has asked muslims across Nigeria to observe the Eid prayers on Friday in their respective communities. He urged the faithful to use the occasion to promote peace, unity and prayers for national stability and development.
