The Nigerian Air Force says scores of bandits have been killed in coordinated air and ground operations in Zamfara State. The air component of Operation Fasin Yamma launched precision strikes on Makakkari Forest after surveillance confirmed the movement of over 400 armed men preparing to attack a farming community.
A statement by NAF spokesman, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, said several notorious gang leaders were among those killed. He described the operation as “exceptional” due to the synergy between air and land forces.

Armed groups locally referred to as bandits have for years targeted rural communities in northwest Nigeria, raiding villages, kidnapping for ransom and burning homes. Authorities say the violence has worsened food shortages in the region and forced many farmers from their land.
Despite a sustained military presence since 2015, attacks have continued. Last month, at least 95 members of an armed gang were killed in similar operations in Niger State. Officials warn some bandits are now cooperating with jihadist groups active in the northeast.
