The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has destroyed over N120 billion worth of counterfeit and expired products across the six geopolitical zones and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in the past six months.
In a statement on Sunday, NAFDAC revealed it had conducted raids on supermarkets and markets in major cities including Lagos, Port Harcourt, Aba, Ibadan, Kaduna, and Abuja, targeting manufacturers and distributors of fake drugs and unwholesome foods. On December 11, the agency destroyed unregistered and expired drugs worth N11 billion in Ibadan, Oyo State.

In November, officers seized N300 million worth of fake medicines at Tyre Village, Trade Fair Complex, Lagos State, and intercepted counterfeit alcohol packaging centres in the state, confiscating items valued at N2 billion.
Additionally, NAFDAC officials raided the Karu market on the border of FCT and Nasarawa State, led by FCT Directorate Director Kenneth Azikiwe. Bags of expired rice repackaged for sale were confiscated, with the total seized products valued at N5 billion.
