NAFDAC Seals Warehouse Stocked with Expired Foreign Drugs in Abia

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, has sealed a warehouse in the outskirts of Aba, Abia State, where expired foreign drugs and supplements were discovered in large quantities.

The facility, a six-flat building situated in the quiet rural setting of Umummeje, Umuocheala, Osisioma Local Government Area, was found to be packed with expired pharmaceutical products.

Speaking after leading journalists through the premises, NAFDAC’s South East Zonal Coordinator, Mr. Martins Iluyomade, confirmed that packaging on some of the seized items indicated they had recently arrived in Nigeria through Lagos’ Ikeja Airport.

He further revealed that the operators of the illicit enterprise had devised a scheme of acquiring expired drugs for repackaging and distribution to unsuspecting consumers.

Authorities have arrested several individuals in connection with the case. However, a key suspect remains at large, while his wife is among those taken into custody.
