NAFDAC Shuts Down Illegal Skincare Factory in Lagos

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, has sealed off Shine Shine Skincare, a cosmetics facility in Agege, Lagos, after uncovering hazardous bleaching products made under unsafe conditions.

Officials discovered items falsely promoted as “organic” but produced without approval or adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices. Products seized included whitening soaps, scrubs and glow creams.

The brand, which has built a large online following under its founder, Devine Nikiruka Adebayo, was found to be using banned substances. NAFDAC said such formulations often contain harmful levels of corticosteroids that can cause skin thinning, delayed healing and other serious health risks.

The agency urged Nigerians to exercise caution when buying cosmetic products, warning that unregistered brands pose significant dangers. It pledged continued enforcement to safeguard public health.
