NAFDAC Warns Against Fake Oxytocin in Circulation

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control has warned Nigerians against using unregistered and falsified Oxytocin injections in circulation. The product, identified as ‘Gold Vision Oxytocin 10IU’, carries a fake NAFDAC registration number and was traced to a Chinese manufacturer and a distributor in Enugu.

NAFDAC said further checks revealed three other falsified injections—A-tocin, Extocin, and Claxitodin—also carried the same registration number. The agency explained that none of the drugs were listed in its official product database.

According to the agency, the use of poor-quality or counterfeit Oxytocin could cause severe health risks, including ineffective contractions during childbirth, postpartum haemorrhage, and maternal death. It warned that contaminated products might delay treatment and increase the need for emergency interventions.

NAFDAC urged healthcare professionals and the public to remain vigilant, avoid unregistered drugs, and report any suspicious medicines to the nearest NAFDAC office.
