NAFDAC Warns Nigerians Over Counterfeit Breast Cancer Drug

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a warning over the circulation of counterfeit Phesgo 600mg, a drug used in the treatment of breast cancer. The alert follows reports from the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH-NSIA), where patients presented suspected fake injections for administration.

NAFDAC said the counterfeit batches, B2346B16 and C3809C5, showed significant discrepancies from genuine products, including incorrect batch numbers, missing tamper-evidence labels, and packaging differences. The agency confirmed that one of the batches has previously been linked to counterfeit cases in Nigeria, Turkey, and the Philippines.

The agency has directed zonal directors and state coordinators to intensify surveillance and remove fake products from circulation. Healthcare providers and consumers are advised to source medicines only from authorised suppliers and report any suspected counterfeit drugs to NAFDAC through official channels.
