Naira Closes 2025 at N1,429, Posts First Annual Gain in 13 Years

The naira closed the year 2025 at N1,429 to the United States dollar, marking its first annual gain in 13 years.

This is according to data from the foreign exchange market which comes as the Central Bank of Nigeria continued to manage monetary policy and foreign exchange supply, including interventions at the official and investors and exporters (I&E) windows.

Foreign exchange market participants reported that the naira strengthened gradually through 2025, driven in part by increased forex inflows from oil and non‑oil exports and remittances from diaspora Nigerians. The enhanced availability of dollars helped reduce pressure on the local currency.
