Controversial social media commentator Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, has reignited debate over cancel culture, claiming that singer Naira Marley once surpassed industry giants like Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy in popularity.
Speaking in a TikTok broadcast, Otse argued that the artist’s massive fanbase—known as Marlians—was the largest in Nigeria before allegations linking him to the death of former signee, Mohbad, led to his widespread cancellation.

He described the music industry as rife with envy and warned against what he views as the damaging effects of cancel culture.
Otse urged authorities to bring clarity to the unresolved issues surrounding Mohbad’s death, suggesting public opinion remains unsettled.
A court recently dismissed a suit filed by Mohbad’s father against Naira Marley and associate Sam Larry, citing lack of evidence directly implicating them.
