Naira Strengthens to N1,424.5 as 2026 Second Trading Week Ends

The naira has strengthened against the United States dollar, closing at N1,424.5 to the dollar at the end of the second trading week of 2026. Official foreign exchange market data from the Central Bank of Nigeria shows the currency improved from N1,431 to the dollar recorded at the close of the previous week.

Trading during the week was relatively stable, with the naira quoted between N1,416 and N1,428 to the dollar before settling at Friday’s level. The Central Bank of Nigeria said the performance was supported by improved liquidity conditions and a slight rise in external reserves.
