Nandi-Ndaitwah secured victory with more than 57% of the vote, though her closest challenger, Panduleni Itula, dismissed the results as flawed.
A veteran of Namibia’s ruling SWAPO party, she joined the liberation movement at 14 and later held key ministerial roles in foreign affairs, tourism, and child welfare. Now 72, she has pledged to revive the economy, create jobs, and heal political divisions. Tanzania’s President Samia Hassan hailed her election as a milestone for Africa.
