Naomi Osaka crushes Serena Williams in straight sets, advances to Australian Open final

Three-time grand slam winner and world no. 3, Naomi Osaka defeated 10th seed Serena Williams in straight sets to advance to the finals of the Australian Open.

After a slow start, Osaka would dominate the game to defeat her idol Serena Williams for the second time in a match that lasted just over an hour and 15 minutes.

In her post-match interview, Osaka admitted to being “nervous and scared in the beginning”.

“I don’t know if there’s any little kids out here today, but I was a little kid watching her play and just to be on the court playing against her for me is a dream.

“I think the biggest thing that I’ve learned over the years is just like, you know, you’re competitive, you’re playing against another competitor. That itself is the funniest part because tennis is a game.”

Serena started the game strong, by would later admit “today was a big error day for me”

Williams was visibly emotional following the match, abruptly ending her post-match interview, after being asked

if she was saying ‘farewell’ to the crowd.

Naomi Osaka will face American Jennifer Brady in the final of the Australian open on Sunday the 21st, at Melbourne Park.
