The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors has issued a 10-day ultimatum to the federal government, warning of a nationwide strike if its demands are not met. The decision followed an extraordinary national executive council meeting held virtually on Sunday.
The doctors accused the government of failing to pay the 2025 medical residency training fund, as well as arrears of the 2024 accoutrement allowance and five months of salary shortfalls under the consolidated medical salary structure. They also raised concerns over the downgrading of membership certificates from the West African postgraduate colleges.

NARD further criticised the Kaduna and Oyo State governments for failing to resolve welfare concerns of doctors in their teaching hospitals, where strikes have already resumed. The association urged state governors to prioritise the welfare of doctors and ensure timely payment of entitlements to prevent further industrial action.
The resident doctors said their ultimatum expires on Wednesday, 10th September. They warned that a nationwide strike would follow if their grievances remain unresolved.
