After being stranded in space for nine months, two NASA astronauts have finally returned to Earth.
Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore landed safely on Wednesday aboard SpaceX’s Dragon Freedom capsule, which splashed down off the coast of Florida.
The astronauts were originally supposed to spend just eight days in space, but technical issues with their spacecraft forced them to extend their stay.

Williams and Wilmore traveled to the International Space Station in June 2024, but their return was delayed when their capsule suffered multiple technical failures.
During their extended stay, the astronauts carried out research experiments and spacewalks. Williams even set a new record for the most time spent outside the space station by a female astronaut
