National Peace committee holds meeting in Abuja

A meeting of the National Peace Committee was held in Abuja on Wednesday, to discuss solutions to the problems threatening peaceful co-existence in Nigeria. In attendance was former military head of state, General Abdusalam Abubakar, who is also the chairman of the committee.

In his speech, he says firearms in circulation across the country are responsible for the insecurity challenges the country faces, which has led to the death of as many as 80,000 people and has left at least, 3 million people internally displaced. He also puts the figure of arms in circulation at no less than 6 million.

He is asking stakeholders and citizens to come up with solutions to the rising insecurity challenges to effectively address the situation.
