National Police Council Confirms Disu as Substantive IGP

The National Police Council has confirmed Olatunji Disu as Nigeria’s substantive Inspector-General of Police, with his name to be forwarded to the Senate for screening.

President Bola Tinubu appointed Disu as acting IGP on February 25, 2026, following the resignation of former IGP Kayode Egbetokun, and had indicated that the council would meet to formalise the appointment.

Disu, 59, assumed office last Wednesday at the Louis Edet House in Abuja after being decorated by the president, having previously served as Assistant Inspector-General in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department Annex in Alagbon, Lagos.
