The Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, has outlined his vision for improving sports in the country, focusing prominently on the challenge of funding. Speaking on a TV interview monitored by Radio Now’s Newsdesk, Mr. Dikko emphasised that addressing the funding issue is crucial for the advancement of sports in Nigeria.
Mr. Dikko revealed plans to establish the National Sports Development Fund, stating that effective funding could resolve nearly 80 percent of the problems facing the sector. He believes that a sustainable flow of financial resources is key to enhancing the nation’s sports infrastructure and support systems.
With the proposed fund, Dikko aims to generate new revenue streams that would enable the commission to allocate resources for crucial projects, including hiring qualified personnel and providing adequate support for athletes.
The NSC Chairman’s initiative seeks to rejuvenate Nigeria’s sports landscape by ensuring that financial constraints no longer hinder growth and development in this vital area.
