In yet another unfortunate turn of events, the nation’s fragile electricity grid has collapsed, plunging the entire country into darkness. The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company announced in a statement on X that the grid went down at precisely 6:58 p.m. on Monday evening.
This latest grid failure was also confirmed by Emeka Ezeh, spokesperson for the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, and by Eko Electricity Distribution Company which assured the public that efforts are underway with relevant stakeholders to restore power as swiftly as possible.

This recent incident marks the sixth collapse of the national grid this year alone. Previous incidents occurred on August 5 and July 6, with earlier outages recorded on April 15, March 28, and February 4, 2024. The frequency of these collapses is a grim reminder of the severe and ongoing challenges plaguing Nigeria’s power infrastructure.
