Personnel of the Nigerian Navy attached to the Forward Operating Base, Escravos, have deactivated five illegal refining sites in the creeks of the Niger Delta. The operation is part of ongoing efforts to tackle crude oil theft, pipeline vandalism and other illicit activities across the region.
Commanding Officer of the base, Navy Captain Ikenna Okoloagu, told journalists in Warri that the coordinated operations yielded significant results over the past few days. He disclosed that about 13,350 litres of stolen crude oil were recovered from 30 dugout pits and three polythene sacks.
Okoloagu explained that the successes were recorded under Operation Delta Sanity II, driven by credible intelligence and aligned with the directives of the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas. He noted specific raids on November 5, 14 and 19, which led to the dismantling of multiple illegal sites at Obodo Omadino in Warri South-West.
