The Nigerian Navy has intercepted a fibre boat carrying about 4,000 litres of suspected Automotive Gas Oil in Lagos waters. The operation was carried out by personnel of the Nigerian Navy Ship Beecroft in the early hours of Saturday near Commodore Pool in the Atlas Cove area.
Executive Officer of NNS Beecroft, Captain Idongesit Udoessien, confirmed the interception during a press briefing on Thursday. He said the patrol team tracked and stopped the vessel through the Navy’s Falcon Eye surveillance system, but the suspects fled on sighting the operatives.

Captain Udoessien explained that the seized product had been handed over to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Lagos Command, for further investigation. He said the operation reflected the Chief of Naval Staff’s directive to maintain a strong presence along the coastline.
He warned those involved in oil theft and other maritime crimes to desist or face prosecution, adding that NNS Beecroft would continue surveillance and intelligence-driven patrols to keep Lagos waterways safe for economic activity.
