The Nigerian Bar Association has called for the immediate suspension of the Tax Reform Acts, citing alleged alterations between the versions passed by the National Assembly and those later gazetted. The call follows claims by a lawmaker from Sokoto State, Abdulsamad Dasuki, that some sections of the laws were changed after parliamentary approval.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the NBA President, Afam Osigwe, said the allegations raise serious concerns about the integrity, transparency and credibility of Nigeria’s legislative process. He called for a comprehensive and transparent investigation to clarify the circumstances surrounding the enactment of the laws.

The association warned that the controversy could have economic consequences, saying legal and policy uncertainty of this scale could unsettle the business environment, erode investor confidence and create unpredictability for individuals and organisations required to comply with the laws.
