The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) reports that 58 percent of households in Nigeria are connected to the national grid, according to its recently released ‘Nigeria Residential Energy Demand Side Survey (NREDSS) 2024’ in Abuja. The survey, which spanned across the six geopolitical zones of the country, includes nine states—Akwa Ibom, Bauchi, Ekiti, Oyo, Enugu, Kwara, Plateau, Kano, and Sokoto.
By interviewing a total of 8,100 households, from both urban and rural areas for the survey, the NBS found that 86.6 percent of households connected to the grid received electricity supply, with 85.2 percent on an estimated billing system, while 14.8 percent used pre-paid meters.
The survey also revealed that the average monthly expenditure on electricity for these households was approximately N4,155.8.
