NCAA Warns Airlines Against Deporting Nigerians Midway Through Travel

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has cautioned international airlines against deporting Nigerian passengers after transporting them halfway to their destinations. It warned that such actions, often due to visa or travel restrictions, cause distress for travellers and tarnish the country’s aviation reputation.

In a statement on Thursday, NCAA’s Director of Consumer Protection and Public Affairs, Michael Achimugu, said airlines must inform passengers of any potential entry restrictions before departure. He cited the Nigeria Civil Aviation Regulations 2023, which mandates airlines and their agents to provide clear travel information to passengers.

The NCAA announced immediate enforcement measures, stating that any airline found engaging in such practices would face regulatory action, including fines, suspension of operations, or other penalties.

The agency urged airlines to comply with regulations and uphold professional standards to protect Nigerian passengers from unnecessary hardship during international travel.
