The Katsina State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency says it arrested 1,018 drug suspects across the state in 2025, as part of efforts to curb drug abuse and trafficking. The state commander, Samaila Danmalam, gave the figures during an end-of-year press briefing on Tuesday.
Mr Danmalam said the arrests followed intelligence-led raids and patrols carried out by NDLEA operatives, disrupting several illicit drug networks. He said the suspects included 992 males and 26 females, with large quantities of illicit substances recovered.
According to the agency, drugs seized during the year included more than 1,667 kilogrammes of cannabis, 12 kilogrammes of codeine, and about 793 kilogrammes of psychotropic substances. The NDLEA also said 86 suspects were arraigned in court, while 87 convictions were secured.

The commander said the agencyās War Against Drug Abuse initiative recorded progress through sensitisation and rehabilitation programmes, but noted that logistical challenges such as vehicles, office infrastructure and accommodation remained. He appealed to the government and other stakeholders to support the command in sustaining its operations.
