The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has uncovered a major opioid cartel operating from a residential estate in Lagos, seizing illicit substances valued at more than ₦6.7 billion. The raid, carried out by the agency’s Special Operations Unit, led to the arrest of alleged kingpin Onyekachi Pius Nwanagu and five members of his network.
According to NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, officers acted on intelligence that over seven million tramadol pills and more than 50 million millilitres of codeine syrup were being prepared for distribution from a warehouse in the Bucknor area of Isolo. Two gang members were first intercepted at Apple Junction, Festac, before a follow-up operation secured the warehouse and detained the remaining suspects.
