NDLEA Says Drug Case Against Abba Kyari Still Ongoing

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) says the substantive drug case against suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police Abba Kyari is still ongoing. The agency said the matter will continue before Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja on March 16, 2026.

The clarification follows the recent discharge of Kyari by Justice James Omotosho in a separate case involving alleged money laundering and non-declaration of assets.

NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi said the ruling by Justice Omotosho is different from the drug trafficking case filed by the agency. He explained that the NDLEA case remains active and is proceeding according to schedule.

Babafemi added that the prosecution team has been directed to obtain the certified true copy of the judgment in the other case. He said the document will help the agency decide on its next line of action.
