NDLEA Seizes 779kg of Illicit Drugs in Akwa Ibom

NDLEA Seizes 779kg of Illicit Drugs in Akwa Ibom

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has reported the seizure of 779 kilograms of illicit drugs in Akwa Ibom State during 2024.  

Addressing journalists in Uyo on Thursday, the State Commander, Mrs. Obot Bassey, disclosed that the agency had also secured the conviction of 56 drug offenders over the past year.

In addition to enforcement activities, the NDLEA provided counselling to 204 individuals and successfully rehabilitated and reintegrated 41 people with substance use disorders back into society.  

Mrs. Bassey, who highlighted cannabis sativa as the most commonly abused and trafficked substance in the state, also reiterated the agency’s commitment to combating drug-related crimes and supporting community-based rehabilitation efforts.
