NECO releases 2025 SSCE results, 60% secure five credits

The National Examinations Council has released the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination results, showing that just over 60 percent of candidates obtained five credits, including English and Mathematics. Out of 1.36 million candidates who sat for the exam, 818,492 achieved this benchmark, while more than 1.1 million secured five credits irrespective of the core subjects.

Announcing the results in Minna, Niger State, Registrar and Chief Executive Dantani Wushishi described the outcome as credible and transparent. He also confirmed that 1,622 candidates with special needs took part, including those with hearing impairments, visual challenges, albinism and autism.

The council reported a 61 percent reduction in examination malpractice, with 3,878 cases recorded this year compared to over 10,000 in 2024. However, 38 schools in 13 states were implicated in mass cheating and will face sanctions, while nine supervisors across five states are to be blacklisted.

Results from eight schools in Adamawa State were withheld following communal clashes that disrupted the examinations. NECO urged candidates to check their results online and called on higher institutions to wait for all examination bodies to release results before concluding admissions.
