The Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council has released the official subject list for the country’s revised basic and secondary school curriculum. The move follows weeks of speculation after unofficial versions were circulated online.
NERDC’s executive secretary, Salisu Shehu, said the council published the approved list to disprove unauthentic documents. He added that a nationwide sensitisation programme and teacher training would be carried out for smooth implementation.

The new curriculum introduces digital literacy and trade subjects such as solar installation, fashion design, livestock farming and computer hardware repairs. Implementation will begin at the entry points of each education cycle, including Primary 1, Primary 4, JSS1 and SS1.
Core subjects remain compulsory, including English, Mathematics, Nigerian history and citizenship studies. Options such as French and Arabic are available, while senior secondary students must take at least one trade subject alongside science, humanities or business electives.
