The Federal Government has assured expatriates that its new immigration measures, including the Expatriate Quota Reform, New Visa Regime, and Post-Amnesty Voluntary Return Programme, are not punitive but aimed at improving migration management and national security.
At a stakeholders’ forum in Abuja, Comptroller General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap, said the reforms introduce digitised services such as e-Visa, e-CERPAC, and e-TWP, designed to reduce waiting times and enhance border governance. She described them as “strategic innovations” to build a traveller-friendly system.

So far, 3,500 foreigners have registered under the amnesty initiative, with some choosing to regularise their stay and others exiting voluntarily. Nandap warned against harbouring irregular migrants, while employers were urged to ensure compliance. The reforms, she said, reinforce Nigeria’s commitment to lawful migration and investor confidence.
