A press release by the Press Secretary to the Council Chairman of Mokwa local government, Abubakar Dakani, has revealed that 60 dead bodies have been recovered and many more remain missing, following the capsizing of a boat that was carrying over 300 passengers, mostly women and children.
The boat capsized yesterday evening around 8:30 PM when passengers were travelling from Mundi to Gbajibo for the Annual Maulud celebration when tragedy struck.

The Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) Director-General, Abdullahi Baba-Arah said over 150 persons have been rescued alive so far, as a result of the prompt response from community volunteers and the State emergency management agency.
