At least 30 people have died in a boat accident in the Gausawa community of Borgu Local Government Area, Niger State. The National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, confirmed the incident, which occurred on 2 September and involved about 90 passengers. So far, 58 people have been rescued, with search and rescue operations continuing for others still unaccounted for.

According to NEMA, the vessel was reportedly overloaded before colliding with a tree stump, leading to the accident. Local divers, emergency officials, and volunteers are working alongside the state’s emergency agency to support the response.
