Nigeria and Colombia Sign Agreements to Boost Bilateral Ties

President Bola Tinubu has pledged speedy implementation of agreements signed with Colombia to deepen bilateral relations in aviation, diplomacy, trade, and culture. He gave the assurance while receiving Colombian Vice-President Francia Márquez at the State House in Abuja.

Mr Tinubu said the accords, overseen by Vice-President Kashim Shettima, would be treated with urgency, adding that Nigeria would replicate aviation and consular agreements earlier signed with Brazil. He urged Colombian investors to explore opportunities in Nigeria’s oil, gas, and agricultural sectors, highlighting the country’s young population as a skilled workforce and large market.

Vice-President Márquez, leading a high-level delegation, described the visit as historic, noting her country’s ancestral ties to Africa. She said the agreements would promote political consultations, ease visa approvals, and encourage direct flights between both nations. She also pledged support for cooperation in gender equality, social justice, and inclusivity.

The memoranda were signed by Nigeria’s foreign minister Yusuf Tuggar and Colombia’s deputy minister of multilateral affairs, Mauricio Jassir. Both sides said the MoU would strengthen dialogue, foster cultural exchanges, and build resilience in education, science, and technology.
