Nigeria at Moderate Risk of Human Metapneumovirus, Says NCDC

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, has assessed the country to be at moderate risk of Human Metapneumovirus, HMPV, according to a public health advisory issued on Tuesday.

The agency said that the Federal Government is actively monitoring the outbreak of the virus, implementing measures to bolster national preparedness and response capabilities.

In collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health, the World Health Organization, WHO, the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention, and the UK Health Security Agency, the NCDC conducted a comprehensive risk assessment to evaluate the threat posed by HMPV.

Additionally, the NCDC highlighted ongoing efforts with Port Health Authorities to ensure heightened vigilance at international points of entry. These measures are part of a dynamic strategy to respond effectively to the evolving risk of the virus.

Human Metapneumovirus, a respiratory pathogen, has been a cause for concern in global public health circles due to its potential to impact vulnerable populations.
