The Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, has revealed that trade between Nigeria and China surpassed $20 billion in 2024. The ambassador made the announcement during the 2025 Chinese Lunar New Year celebrations at the Chinese Cultural Centre in Abuja over the weekend.
Dunhai expressed China’s eagerness to further strengthen trade relations with Nigeria, highlighting the significant potential his country sees in Nigeria’s market. He also emphasised that one of the key pillars of their relationship is the close cultural and people-to-people exchanges, with the Lunar New Year celebration serving as a catalyst for fostering these ties.

Mr. Oraeluno Raphael Obi, Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, also spoke at the event, noting that the relationship between Nigeria and China is deeply rooted in history. He highlighted that both countries share mutual respect and common aspirations, which have strengthened their partnership over the years.
The ambassador’s remarks signal an ongoing commitment by both nations to enhance collaboration, not only in trade but also in cultural exchange, as they look towards the future of their bilateral relations.
