Nigeria Demands Security Council Seat, Debt Relief at UN Assembly

President Bola Tinubu has urged world leaders to embrace sweeping reforms at the United Nations or risk the global body losing relevance. In a speech delivered on his behalf by Vice President Kashim Shettima at the 80th UN General Assembly in New York, the President described ongoing human suffering in the Middle East and other regions as “stains on our collective humanity.”

President Tinubu outlined Nigeria’s demands for reform, including a permanent seat for the country on the UN Security Council. He also called for a binding global mechanism to address the sovereign debt crisis, describing it as vital for developing nations to escape dependency on raw material exports.
